..customary greetings..

whoops, s'pose i should update this thing in case anyone's reading, hahahaha!

customs was nothing like as scary as they make out on Border Security, which i am verily grateful for - one of the customs guys reminded me very much of Short Stuff, which helped heaps! he was fun and blonde and beardy and such the nice guy. he laughed at how i'd checked just about every box in the "have you anything to declare" section of my arrival card..

- Medicines (i had claratyne and panadol in my bag.)
- Food Items (i had dried oysters for grannie, so that wasn't overreacting. and a squashed sesame bar which had traveled from Carlton to Hong Kong and back. i still hadn't opened it to eat.)
-
Wooden Items (um.. one tiny lacquered wood golf tee, for dad, which was in a packet of plastic newfangled supershot neon plastic ones.. they looked a bit like those fancy schmancy new fishing lures..)
-
Items with Soil Attached (the shoes i was wearing.. which had been all over hong kong.)
-
Animals/Animal Products (um.. the food stuff. and a skelanimal toy which i didn't know what the stuffing might be made of.)
- Goods over AU$900 (i wasn't sure how much four bags of dried oysters cost.. the guy just about fell over laughing.)
-
Weapons (i had a bottle of duty-free Chivas Whiskey for mum.. if it broke, it could be used as a weapon..)

customs guy: "calm down! it's your own country, you don't have to be so scared!"
caro: "but i have freaky weird ASIAN FOOD! and i'm coming from HONG KONG! and my mother made me watch BORDER SECURITY before i left home!! and it's my very first Big Trip without my mother!!"
all 4 customs officers: *crack up laughing*

either way, they smiled and patted me on the head, said i was cute and, after a brief look at the dried oysters, scallops and shrimp (gawd they reeked), they assured me it was all okay and i was free to go.

i think i lost my Roo phone accessory in the customs x-ray conveyor belt, though.. :( it was still on my phone when i was collecting my luggage before customs, and it was missing when i called mum after getting out of customs.. it was brand new, too :( i love Roo, he's my favourite winnie-the-pooh character, and i'd never seen a phone accessory with him on it before.. damn.

customs quarantine panic mode

oh. my. gawd.

i'm supposed to bring home dried oysters, dried scallops and dried shrimp from hong kong for my grannie AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT I NEED TO PRINT ON THE PACKAGE LABEL FOR CUSTOMS SO THEY'LL LET ME BRING IT IN O_O

aw, geez.

i'm sitting here at the computer, perusing the AQIS website and staring blankly at a bag of shriveled, gross-looking snot-coloured naked crustaceans.

ew, ew, ew.

it is completely beyond my understanding why anyone would want to eat these. -_-"
