:: Haiti Earthquake Appeal ::

If the recent catastrophes and disasters have left you feeling down, depressed and helpless, or you've just been going through a hell of a difficult time in your life, here is a little story to help lift your spirits..
This is a story about a lecturer who began a seminar holding up a 20 dollar bill, and asking:

"Who wants this 20 dollar bill?"

Several hands went up, but the lecturer said:

"Before handing it over, there’s something I must do."

He furiously crushed it, and asked again:

"Who still wants this bill?"

The hands continued raised.

"And what if I do this?"

He threw it against the wall, letting it fall to the floor, kicked it, stamped in it and again held up the bill - all dirty and crumpled. He repeated the question, and the hands continued to be held high.

"You mustn’t ever forget this scene," said the lecturer.

"No matter what I do with this money, it’ll still be a 20 dollar bill. Many times in our lives, we are crushed, stamped on, kicked, maltreated, offended; however, in spite of this, we are still worth the same."
Chin up, buck up, and remember that whatever you are going through, the way you carry yourself around others will have an effect on them.

If you can help others, even in a very small way, do so. Whatever you have to offer, be it kind words, a hug, a smile.. it can be an incredible help to people just to know you are there and that you care about them.

My grandma passed away last week, and although I didn't actually tell many people about it, I was so touched by the number of friends who sent messages, cards, flowers, and showed up to her funeral to support my family and me, even though some didn't know my grandmother personally.

Knowing that people care about what you are going through, that people are there to offer help and comfort should you need it, meant so much to me.

The people in Haiti are also grieving for their lost loved ones after the recent earthquakes. Not everyone can be there personally to offer comfort and support, but there are still small ways we can help. Most charities are running Haiti Earthquake Appeals, so you can offer a donation to help these people with basic necessities and to help them rebuild their lives.

If you can't afford a donation, please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers. Every small act of care you can offer counts..!

Sydney Adventures Vol. (how many times is it now??)

(Hmm, forgot all about this post and left it hanging in my drafts folder.. whoops...)

Ahahaha, yes I went to Sydney again. To experience an asian concert for the very first time!


Friday 3rd July
Happy Birthday NUTLEY!!!
Flight wasn't till 1:25pm but we were flying with budget budget Tiger Airlines which requests you check in to domestic flights TWO HOURS BEFORE FLYING OUT (how insane!) so really we had to get to the airport around 11:30am or so.. joy of joys.

Kaz had to pick up Shanny as well, so the aim was to leave her house by 10:15.. figured that meant I should get to K's house by 9:45 or so. Gave her a phone call at 9:30 to say I was on my way over... and was greeted by a frog, ahahaha!! (Obviously 9:30 is too early to call, hmmmm...)

The Jay Chou concert was pretty good (but then I don’t have any other asian concerts to compare it to, so no idea if it was anywhere near as good as a Leo/Justin/Miriam/Sammi/etc concert..) there were fireworks and fireballs and costumes and his dance instructor proposed onstage – ahaha so much pressure on the girlfriend who was dragged on stage in front of thousands of people and proposed to…! Oh and he had Nan Quan Mama as guests (I love them ^_^ Yay Lara!) and they sang an old song of Jay’s that was one he used to perform with an old girlfriend..? We went out for pancakes after with Kaz & Shan’s ANZ friends, but I got so sleepy after awhile that Chester and I left early to go back to the apartment.. apparently I missed a lot of fun.. oh well. Next time :p

Saturday 4th I finally had my long awaited lunch trip to FISH MARKETS..!

Kaz and Shan and I waited for the others arrive, then we got sick of waiting and Ches& I went to buy some sashimi and oysters just to get us started.. FRESH SASHIMI YUM YUM YUM, lol. When Herb & Lil arrived, the others went to get lobster & stuff… they came back with two GIANT PLATTERS of fried seafood.. lobster, prawns, scallops, calamari, baby octopus, fish, abalone.. we had too much food, so I couldn’t go back and get a 2nd lot of sashimi :(

Then we went to Paddington market to check out all the crafts and jewelry and clothes and stuff.. I picked up a little stone bracelet for my cousin, and a hair clip for my auntie, but nothing for me.. I was eyeing some really fun-looking punky-gothy-lacy dresses and tops but in the end decided not to buy because.. well.. $40-$80 is a lot and I probably wouldn’t get much chance to wear anyway… but there were so many different crafts to see and buy, people are so creative!

After the market we had coffees across the road (I had a chai latte, it was more creamy than I expected.. felt so fluffy full afterwards, lol) and then went back to Chinatown to get larp cheongs and yoon cheongs for Kaz’s parents.. I took the bags off her for a little while to give her arms a break, and OMG it felt like I was carrying more than 20 kilos =_= dropped our stuff off at the apartment and went out for KOREAN DINNER at Madang. Hot pot in winter and kimchi pancake, ahhhhh.

Then we went to explore Kings Cross, because Herb really wanted to see what the place was like, and Lil knew a good bar for drinks that was nearby and not dodgey :p Anyway so as we were walking down the street, we noticed that the bouncer guys kept approaching Ches about going in to the dodgey clubs (I was howling with laughter by the 3rd guy..) and when we reached the end of the street, we stood around and pondered why they only ever approached Ches and not the other guys like Herb or Gez.. and thought maybe it was because Ches was holding hands with me?

So Herb and Kaz linked arms and we strolled down the other side of the street to see if they would now approach Herb instead of Ches (we stopped for the “experiment” hahaha) and sure enough, the bouncers kept asking Herb if he wanted to go in and see a show, and ignored Ches and Gerry. Gez wanted to walk down again with two girls and see what the reaction from bouncers would be..

Anyway, Lil’s friends arrived and the others wanted to go in to one of the clubs to see a show, so after we bought lollies (there is a British Lolly Shop in King’s Cross! I was so excited) Ches and I took our leave and walked back to the apartment instead. We walked through a few parks on the way, the trees looked so nice at night ^_^ and there was a swimming pool with a glass roof and apparently in the daytime you can walk over it and see the people swimming underneath you, lol..


There was some excitement when we left the park, some police officers which had been chatting in the park suddenly made a dash for their car and roared off, sirens blaring.. and then more followed as we crossed the road.. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 police cars zoomed past us with the sirens and lights on, and Ches and I looked at each other, thinking “OMG what’s happened that needs more than 10 police cars and riot vans”..


Turned out something had happened near Myer, all the cars & vans were parked there but the kerfuffle seemed to be over, all the police officers were standing around. Ches noticed that they had arrested someone.. one of the police vans was shaking and we could hear BANG BANG BANG someone was violently punching or kicking from the inside.

So I wonder what happened..

We got back to the apartment with no more dramas, and Alex was playing poker with some friends in our apartment.. one of them turned out to be someone I went to primary school with who had moved to Canberra for work, hehe.. so I’m super glad I chose not to check out the clubs with the others that night ^_^ Even though Kaz & Shan wanted to drag me in.. “it’ll be an experience, you have to come in!”.. err but it wasn’t an experience I was keen to go through, lol..

I had my lollies and police drama and primary school friend and Ches, haha.. that was enough!




Sunday 5th quiet day. Which was good, since Kaz and I didn't get to sleep till about 5am..

The others hopped in a hire car and went to explore Bondi, I wandered down to QVB and caught a train out to hang with Ches awhile and meet some of his friends.

Explored Brighton-le-Sands, climbed on some rocks, nearly tumbled off said rocks into the bay, ate some souvlaki with garlic sauce by the beach (yummmmm), had a good look at Botany Bay, had dinner with Ches's parents, and dashed to the airport and flew hoooooome.

Biggest. Potential. Crabstick. Ever.

For some reason, lately everything seems to make me think of food..

Last week, I was fixated on cheeseburgers. Seeing cows made me think of cheeseburgers. Seeing sharks made me think of cheeseburgers. Seeing something random and apparently unrelated made me think of cheeseburgers!!

And omg, pickles. Every time the word pickle was mentioned, even if it was the non-culinary kind of pickle, it brought me to a stop as my mind floated away and daydreamed of cheeseburgers... =_=

Utterly obsessed with food. I'm trying to remember if I always was, or whether this is a recent development of the occasional kind..
